This policy covers Fretboard at playfretboard.com, run by Skadar Studio LLC, an Arizona company. It explains what the site collects when you use it and what you can do about it.
Summary
Fretboard has no accounts or forms. The site shows ads from Google AdSense and measures visits with Google Analytics and Vercel. Those services handle data about your visit as described below. Your Fretboard settings stay on your device.
Advertising
Fretboard shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and other ad companies it works with use cookies and similar technology to show ads, limit how often you see the same one, measure how ads perform, and prevent fraud. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and other sites.
Google’s advertising cookies let it and its partners show you ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. Ads can also be non-personalized, based on the page you are viewing and your general location rather than your history.
Ad companies can collect your IP address, the pages you visit, your device and browser details, and identifiers stored in cookies. Google’s policies govern how it uses that data.
You can turn off personalized ads from Google in My Ad Center. To opt out of personalized ads from other companies that take part in industry programs, visit aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
Visitors in Europe, the UK, and Switzerland
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, a consent message from Google asks before any advertising or analytics cookies are used. It lists the ad companies involved and what each one does, and lets you agree, refuse, or choose purpose by purpose. Until you choose, advertising and analytics cookies stay off.
To change your choice later, use the Privacy and cookie settings link at the bottom of any page.
Visitors in US states with privacy laws
Some US states, including California, treat showing ads based on your activity across sites as selling or sharing personal information, or as targeted advertising. If you visit from one of those states, a Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link appears at the bottom of every page. Use it to opt out, and Google will show you only non-personalized ads on Fretboard.
You can also email hello@playfretboard.com to opt out or to make any of the requests listed under Your rights.
Google Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which features people use. When cookies are allowed, it sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_<ID>. They last up to two years and let Analytics tell a returning visitor from a new one.
With cookies allowed, Google Analytics collects:
- the pages you view and how long you stay
- the page or site that sent you here
- approximate location (country and city), worked out from your IP address; Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses
- device type, browser, operating system, and screen size
- interactions it measures automatically, such as scrolling and clicks on links that leave the site
Google Analytics keeps event data for 2 months and user data for 14 months, then deletes it.
The site uses Google Consent Mode. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, analytics cookies stay off until you agree in the consent message. When cookies are off, Google Analytics sets none. Google may still receive a signal that a page was viewed, with no cookie or identifier attached, which it uses to estimate overall traffic.
To block Google Analytics on every site you visit, use Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights
The site also uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and Vercel Speed Insights to measure how fast pages load. Neither sets cookies.
Web Analytics tells visits apart with a hash of the incoming request that is discarded after 24 hours. Skadar Studio LLC sees only totals: pages, referring sites, countries, browsers, operating systems, and device types. Speed Insights records load-time measurements along with the page, the device type, and the browser.
Your settings
Fretboard remembers your settings, such as theme, tuning, capo, instrument, scale, playback options, and pedals, so they are still there next time. They are saved in your browser’s local storage and in first-party cookies whose names start with fb_. The cookies let the server draw the page with your settings already applied, and they last one year.
These settings say nothing about who you are, are not used for analytics or ads, and are not shared with anyone. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes them.
Hosting logs
The site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel receives every request to the site and logs it to run the service and keep it secure. A log entry can include your IP address, your browser’s user agent, the address requested, and the time. Vercel keeps these logs for a limited period set by its service plans.
If you email hello@playfretboard.com, Skadar Studio LLC receives your address and your message, uses them only to reply, and keeps them until they are deleted.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal data relates to you, to get a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its use, to withdraw consent, and to opt out of its sale or sharing and of targeted advertising. Skadar Studio LLC will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.
Skadar Studio LLC itself holds almost no personal data: only emails you send. Most of the data described here is held by Google and Vercel. To make a request, email hello@playfretboard.com. Requests about data Google holds can also go straight to Google through your Google Account or Google’s privacy tools.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Fretboard is not directed at children under 13, and Skadar Studio LLC does not knowingly collect personal data from them.
